PGA Championship: Tiger Shoots -1 Under 71

I know most of you didn't get a chance to watch Tiger's full round today, but considering how he played last week I was very eager to see how he came out at the PGA Championship. For me and most Tiger fans it was no questions asked can't miss opening round. Needless to say I was very impressed with Tiger's play this morning. Bill Simmons said it best this morning via twitter " Birdie, birdie..wait a second, is Tiger in Eff You Mode??? Hide the women, children and cocktail waitresses!! He's Back!" Disregarding the shot at Tiger and his issues with women, I would have to agree with Simmons.

Numerous people were talking about Tiger's putter and how it was failing him of late, but his putter looked very clean in the opening holes from what I saw. Starting at the 10th hole, Tiger birdied his first two holes, which was the first time he has done that in any tournament round since last year at the Buick Open. He then birdied the13th but bogied on a very tough Par 5 on the 14th hole. He added another bogey on another par 5, then missed the green on a par 3 at the 7th and was unable to get up and down to save par. He did come back and birdie the 9th to get back to -1 under, and held throughout. I am a huge Tiger fan and wish the best for him, we all make mistakes and he is paying his dues for the ones he has made. I know he will find his game and find a balance with his family soon, he is just too big of a competitor to not let this happen. Considering the circumstances of his personal life and his disater at the Bridgestone last week, I think this was an excellent performance. Tiger even thought so himself, saying "I played too good not to shoot under par, and it would have been very disappointing and frustrating to end up at even par as well as I played today."

How do you guys think the rest of the PGA Championship will turn out for Tiger? And what did his round today say about him, if anything?

  1. I agree, I think Tiger played well today. Honestly I thought he would just have to make the cut this weekend considering last week. But contending will sure do the trick if he can keep it up.

  3. I think he will stay middle of the pack, possibly contend. Making the cut was good enough in my book.
