Trouble in Big D?
You have probably heard this for months now leading up to the season about the Dallas Cowboys, that they could be the first team to play the SuperBowl in there own building in Cowboy Stadium in January....the only problem to that theory is that you actually have to play the games and win them to get there. Don't get me wrong people that write for this website and experts all across the landscape of sports will tell you that the Cowboys are loaded with talent and have all the pieces to make a strong push towards that SuperBowl in Dallas. Consider the logic that, Yes the Cowboys have one of the most talented teams in the NFL, Yes the Cowboys "should" have the motivation, the have weapons on offense, they have weapons on defense, and they have an owner in Jerry Jones that will do anything possible to put them in the best position to win and going by that logic there is no way that there should be panic in Dallas, but let me tell you people are worried. It certainly doesn't help that the Cowboys are playing the Texans this Sunday who have finally proved in at least in the first two games that they are to be taken seriously. There is no way that Dallas can afford to be 0-3 in a tough division and with the schedule not getting any easier. Not only is Dallas 0-2 in the division but games with Tennessee, at Minnesota, at Green Bay, New Orleans, and at Indy still loom, let alone the NFC East divisional games. If you peak ahead at the schedule, Dallas only has 3 games they will probably be favored nicely with games at Arizona, Jacksonville and Detroit, the rest of the schedule is no picnic but any stretch of the word.
No 0-3 team has ever made it to the Super Bowl, and trust me know one saw that coming. There was questions in the preseason that maybe the offense wasn't clicking like it was suppose to but that it all could be rectified as the preseason went on and that it would be fine leading up until the regular season. But then in the dress rehearsal game 3 of the preseason the Cowboys were embarrassed by the Texans at Reliant Stadium, the same place and team they will play on Sunday with there season ultimately in the balance.
The running game that they don't use, the all star defense that let Culter run wild in Dallas Stadium, the coaching, and the injuries to key offensive lineman Marc Colombo and Kyle Kosier are all cause for concern. Trust me I am no football expert but I think the problem will start to heal itself once Colombo and Kosier are fully healthy, giving Romo time in the pocket and avoid him from getting flushed out and having to make tough throws on the run. It will also help at the line of scrimmage in picking up blitzes and open up lanes and gaps for the running game. Once you have a solid mix of run and pass you can start to get teams on there heals, for example, look at what the Colts did to the Giants last Sunday night. Peyton shredded the Giants defense like a highly paid surgeon to the tune of 20 for 26, 255 efficient yards, and 3 touchdowns no interceptions. When the running game is rolling safeties and DBs bite on the run to make plays at the second level when the run penetrates the first line. When those DBs bite on the run and hesitant on the play action it gives plenty of time for Whitten, Austin, and Bryant to beat defenses and coverages vertically down the field, like you saw with Peyton's 50 yard bomb to Dallas Clark. Sounds a lot easier said than done but it this point I think Dallas will take solace in the fact that they have problems that can be fixed.
With all that being said I think they Cowboys have the tools to turn it around, but at 0-2, and with a tough division and league schedule is it already too late?
