Bringing Back the True Point: Kyrie Irving

If you don't know who this is I would suggest you quickly jump on Kyrie Irving's bandwagon because seats are filling up quick. I don't know if most of you now that follow our blog were reading back in the summer, but I did a review of the ACC and explained that Kyrie Irving would be the class of conference, and so far Irving has made me look like a prophet.

The comparison that has been thrown around numerous times by fans, experts and other coaches is that he is the next installment of Chris Paul, the pure point. I think a lot of times people get caught up in the flash of the point guard position and forget its true purpose in a basketball team. Take Kemba Walker for example, I am a huge fan of his talent and ability to get in the lane and score, and not only that but his jump shot is leaps and bounds better from where it was 2 years ago, the kid is a legit scorer and can really fill it up. If your asking me who I want my starting point guard to be between Irving and Walker, its Irving for me without even thinking.

Jacob Pullen, Kansas State's All American guarding , looking to lead the KSU to the final four this year after a very impressive season last year got ABUSED by Kyrie Irving on National TV 2 weeks ago. Kyrie got every pass he wanted, got to the rim at will, created, and Pullen couldnt even get enough pressure on him to make him pick up his dribble. Kyrie torched him. 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

Tuesday night in a highly anticipated game against Michigan State University, Irving was at it again, dropping a career high 31 points with ease. All American Kalen Lucas was not match for Irving either, Irving put on a show. 31 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. That type of effort had NCAA basketball pundits calling Irving the best pg in the nation hands down. Irving was always on the NBA draft tracker but his shot up to top 3 in various polls and has sneaked in as the number 1 overall pick in a few too.

There is no question that it is a long season and Irving will have to prove himself night in and night out in the ACC, but already on two of the biggest stages against (4) Kansas State and (6) Michigan State Irving has proved he is ready for the challenge.
